Get your Halloween on

Break out your costume and head to Waikiki. Royal Hawaiian Center is home to Halloween activities, including a costume contest 3 to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 28. Prizes for those deemed most adorable, most creative, most original, best ohana, and grand champion with winners receiving shopping center gift cards. Three-hour parking validation provided for registered participants. Not feeling competitive? Full moon celebration

Bishop Museum is honoring the Tsukimi No Kai, the Japanese practice of full-moon viewing  5:30-9 p.m. Oct. 25. There will be an offering, blessing and tea ceremony, plus taiko drumming and food tastings. The planetarium and the Science Adventure Center will be open to guests. Telescopes will be set up by the  Hawaiian Astronomical Society for a closer look at the night sky. Tickets are $15 adults and $10 kids at www.bishopmuseum.org/special-events.

Doggy’s day out

Fido doesn’t was to stay home. Celebrate National Dog Day 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 26 at Spalding House, where “well-behaved, leashed dogs and their adult owners” are invited to play in the agility course and partake in pet-friendly food at the cafe. Pet parents who want to check out The World Reflected exhibition can leave their pup with a “Doggy Valet”. Admission is $35.

Movies on the north shore

The Hukilau Marketplace at the Polynesian Cultural Center is screening free outdoor movies each month as part of its Movies on the Lawn series. Showtime is at 7:30 p.m. Bring a blanket and check out:
