The Honolulu Board of Water Supply is offering free Blushing Bromeliads as part of its free xeric seed of the month program. It’s nontoxic and doesn’t need much light of water. Sounds perfect for a beginning gardener like me. https://www.boardofwatersupply.com/conservation/xeriscape/xeric-seed-program/featured-seeds-of-the-month

Where have Shrinky Dinks gone on the craft scene? Perhaps parents thought it better not to encourage kids to play with the oven. But watching the scraps of plastic shrivel to a quarter of it’s size was a vital part of my childhood. Celebrate the year of the dog at Ben Franklin’s Keiki Saturday craft workshops. For $5 kids can make a shrink art dog keychain Jan. 27 10 a.m. to noon.  http://benfranklinhawaii.com/docs/01JAN2018_KeikiSaturday_Poster11x17.pdf
