Byodo-In Temple is one of the most picturesque bon dance settings in the state. Head over to Valley of the Temples Memorial Park for the 50th anniversary Obon from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 4. There will be food booths with bento and andagi, taiko drummers and bon dancers, of course. The evening concludes with a floating lantern ceremony. Keiki can honor ancestors
If bon dances go too late into the night for your keiki, head over to the The Children’s Discovery Center is host a keiki bon dance festival 10 a.m. to noon July 7. Newbies can learn the moves while experienced kids can display their talents. They will even dance to the always popular “Pokemon Ondo”. There will be Japanese crafts and games, too. First bon dance of 2018
Hawaii’s Plantation Village kicks off the bon dance season with their June 2 celebration. Food and craft booths open at 4:30 p.m. and the dance begins at 5:45 p.m. Admission and parking are free.
