Kids First Film on the west side

The University of Hawaiʻi at West Oʻahu is showing a free screening of “The Boxcar Children: Surprise Island” as part of the KIDS FIRST! Film Festival at 3 p.m. Sept. 23. Local and delicious

There’s a few days left for kids to submit an original recipe in the Hawaii Gas Localicious Recipe Contest for a chance to win a two-night stay at Aulani. Judges will pick the top three recipes in two age categories: grades 4 to 8 and grades 9 to 12. Submissions are due by Sept. 21. Recipes must include at least one locally grown ingredient. Give a little aloha

Aloha Festivals returns with the ocean-centric theme, “No Ke Kai Kakou E – We are of the Sea.” Sept. 15 is the Pearlridge Keiki Hoolaulea with events, crafts and entertainment at the mall from 10 a.m.–3 p.m. Next weekend on Sept. 22, Kalakaua Avenue will be closed for the 66th Annual Waikiki Hoolaulea 7 to 10 p.m. There will be booths with food, crafts and culture demonstrations plus performances on stage with music and hula halau. Teddy bear compassion

Teach you kids about helping other at the Teddy Bear Round-Up 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 22 at Windward Mall Center Court.
